Hallmarks of Tartan deck design center on wide side-decks for easy and safe movement, deep, comfortable and secure cockpits, extensive ventilation in ports & hatches, and traditional styling. The 5300 embraces all of these elements in a design that offers the expansive views of a raised salon yacht as well as the benefits of a center cockpit. The center cockpit offers excellent visibility and affords the ability to house a full width aft master cabin. The main living area of the boat is housed in the raised salon, offering easier access to the interior as well as a light and airy feel thanks to the large tempered glass portlights. On deck storage, sometimes a draw back to center cockpit designs, is given a priority on the 5300. She boasts 3 large deck lockers, one forward and 2 others in the aft port and starboard quarters, these lockers provide ample room for a wide range of cruising gear. 12 opening house side portlights, 2 cockpit opening portlights, 4 dorades and 10 deck hatches provide ventilation, always a central theme for Tartan. Fit with the best hardware and equipment available the 5300 deck is a model of comfort, safety and efficiency.
The Tartan 5300 is designed as a cruising boat for sailors that appreciate performance. 46.5 feet of waterline and a displacement to length ratio of 165 delivers impressive daily passages and rewarding sailing characteristics. A narrow waterline entry angle and clean undistorted lines leading to broad aft quarters produces a hull with good upwind performance and powerful, sheets eased sailing. Through careful shaping, the hull has an even volume distribution throughout its length, this shape remains in symmetry when the boat heels and maintains good directional stability. Coupled with a high ballast to displacement ratio and low CG keel designs the 5300 is an uncommonly stable and very well mannered sailing yacht.
Great performance, with easy handling begins with the correct rig choice. Tartan has developed its CCR rig to provide the best combination for efficient upwind sailing and easy to manage use of larger offwind sails. Upwind she is powered by a high performance 105% roller furling jib, the smaller size means easier tacking and better visibility, this sail can also be furled to a 90% jib without significant loss of sail shape. The carbon fiber pocket boom allows a full roach, fully battened main that can be built without the performance restrictions induced by roller furling mains. The pocket boom also provides a wide base for lazy jacks and makes setting and dousing the main an easy task. Offwind performance is maximized using a masthead, roller furling reacher that is easily handled by a couple. For greater strength and performance, the 5300 is fit with a two spreader carbon mast that saves 50% of the tube weight of an aluminum mast. Additionally, rod rigging further reduces weight aloft and provides less stretch and windage. These weight savings further improve the sail carrying ability, seakeeping motion and stability of the 5300.
Knowing that our owners have different requirements, the 5300 is available in a range of standard interior layouts. 3 cabins, 4 cabins and an available raised interior nav/remote helm station are some of the highlights of the available option. Each arrangement plan features two large head compartments, both fit with full shower stalls, an opulent main cabin positioned in the raised salon area, full navigation station and a galley that will please the most ardent seagoing chef. Extensive use of laminated curved trims and solid stock panel doors and cabinetry, all varnished to a satin luster surround you in soft hues and elegance. Making full use of the centercockpit/raised salon deck plan, the 5300's interior layout is extensive, expansive and inviting. By using the best build practices and joining them in a contemporary hull form and rig, the 5300 represents a new class of performance cruising in her size range.
